Ute leghei ute kruptei, transliteration from the Greek ὄυτε λέγει ὄυτε κρύπτει, literally means neither says nor hides and is part of a fragment of Heraclitus (22B93 DK) in which explicit reference is made to Apollo, the god who presides over wisdom through the attributes of the bow and lyre, symbols of thought and speech.

Expression neither tells nor conceals reveals the very nature of the god as well as of the wisdom he bestows upon men, which is «oblique, indirect, ambiguous», since words, at the very moment they describe and ‘illuminate’ an object, conceal its innermost nature.

The basic ambiguity of any language with respect to the profound truth of things and the existential enigma that follows, concepts rejected by our civilisation in which certainty and truth coincide, constitute the central theme of the short film.

They are also, however, at the heart of a sentiment of art from which every single piece of the present production stems, a sentiment that needs to be remembered and borne witness to today more than ever, in an era in which the excess of analysis and measurement is evidently not leading to a pacification with life.

Ute leghei ute kruptei, traslitterazione dal greco ὄυτε λέγει ὄυτε κρύπτει, significa letteralmente né dice né nasconde ed è parte di un frammento di Eraclito (22B93 DK) in cui si fa esplicito riferimento ad Apollo, il dio che presiede alla sapienza attraverso gli attributi dell’arco e della lira, simboli del pensiero e della parola.

L’espressione né dice né nasconde rivela la natura stessa del dio così come della sapienza che egli concede agli uomini, che è «obliqua, indiretta, ambigua», poiché le parole, nel momento stesso in cui descrivono e “illuminano” un oggetto, ne nascondono la natura più intima.

L’ambiguità di base di qualsiasi linguaggio rispetto alla verità profonda delle cose e l’enigma esistenziale che ne consegue, concetti rifiutati dalla nostra civiltà in cui certezza e verità coincidono, costituiscono il tema centrale del cortometraggio. 

Sono anche però il cuore di un sentimento dell’arte da cui nasce ogni singolo pezzo della presente produzione, sentimento che necessita oggi più che mai di essere ricordato e testimoniato, in un’epoca in cui l’eccesso di analisi e di misurazione non sta portando, evidentemente, ad una pacificazione con la vita.
